Mohamed El Shafei, Director of the Institute of Animal Husbandry at the Agricultural Research Center of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture, revealed the details of the production of the first chickens and roosters from Egyptian municipal breeds.
Al-Shafei confirmed in statements to the Egyptian website Cairo 24 that it was the first time my country’s poultry had been bred in Egypt, explaining that the breed included chickens and roosters.
He explained that the identified strains are fattening meat strains because the Tanta strain was developed at the Agricultural Research Center of the Animal Research Institute in 2023, and it is a fattening meat production strain.
He said that work on obtaining the strain has started from 2015 to the present at the Gemmayzeh research station.
And he emphasized that the purpose of the breed is to obtain fattening mothers, the resulting chickens are characterized by an improvement in the food conversion rate and growth rate in a short period of time.
Also, this strain consumes a small percentage of feed, besides, due to its higher disease resistance than international strains, it is suitable for rural poultry production, besides the low cost of the cycle due to its lack of need for a closed case, which means it does not need systems cooling or heating, which reduces the cost of household electricity consumption.
He explained that the most important characteristic of the breed is the low risk to the breeder due to its high immunity, as well as the fact that it is more suited to the taste of the Egyptian consumer.
He emphasized that the new dynasty would help reduce the importation of well-fed mothers and provide hard currency for export, noting that the Tanta 1 dynasty was also different from local dynasties.
He says that increasing the number of fattening sessions throughout the year helps reduce barn rental, labor and other operating costs charged per cycle, and thus increases profitability.
