Neutralizing the Russian Mazepin for Formula 1 Racing

The European Court allowed the Russian driver Nikita Mazepin to participate in Formula 1 racing in a neutral position.

24-year-old Nikita Mazepin competed in only one season of Formula 1 racing in 2021 with the American team Haas, and his best result was fourteenth.

The name of Nikita Mazepin was included in the sanctions list of the European Union and Great Britain, and his father, businessman Dmitry, came under EU sanctions in March 2022.

On March 5, the Haas team terminated the contract with Mazepin on the eve of the start of the new Formula 1 season due to the situation in Ukraine, where the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi was also canceled.

The Haas team also terminated the sponsorship contract with the Russian fertilizer company Ural-Kale, which since December 2020 has owned an 81.47% stake in the Ural-Chem company, owned by Dmitry Mazepin, Nikita’s father, and a Russian racing driver for the season 2022 was replaced by Kevin Magnussen.
