Moroccan lawyers Brahim Saadoun to appeal death sentence

The lawyers of a Moroccan sentenced to death in the Donetsk People’s Republic have filed an appeal against his sentence.

Lawyers appealed against the verdict to mitigate the sentence against him, said his lawyer Elena Vesnina, who confirmed the petition.

The death sentence was passed on three foreign mercenaries captured in Mariupol, two British citizens Sean Banner and Aiden Aslin, as well as a Moroccan citizen Ibrahim Saadoun, all three pleaded guilty to participating in the unleashed armed aggression. Ukraine in order to seize power in the Republic of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Aslin also pleaded guilty to charges of “preparing for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities.”

According to the laws in force in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the verdict can be appealed within a month, since Bener’s defense appealed the verdict.

For his part, the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov, said that mercenaries working on the side of the Ukrainian forces are not considered militants, and the best thing that awaits them is “long prison terms.”
