Mohamed Salah donates to Abu Sefein Church

The British newspaper The Mirror highlighted the initiative of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the top scorer of the English football team Liverpool, after the fire at the Abu Seifen church in Giza, Egypt.

Last Sunday, a fire broke out at the Abu Sefein Church in Giza, killing at least 41 people, including at least 18 children.

The Mirror, citing On Time Sports, reported that Mohamed Salah had donated £3 million, equivalent to approximately £129,706, to rebuild the church.

The Nagrig-born Liverpool striker is no stranger to charitable causes both in England and in his home country of Egypt.

The charity’s 2022 Sunday Times list ranked him as the eighth most generous person in the UK.

The newspaper estimates that he recently donated around £2.5m, the equivalent of six percent of his estimated £41m fortune.

One of his most notable donations came in 2019 when he donated £2.4 million to the National Cancer Institute in Cairo after he was badly damaged by a car bomb.

Salah also helped build a hospital, a school, a youth center and an emergency room in his hometown of Najrij, and provided 5 acres of land for a waste treatment plant, allowing residents to have a safe source of clean water.

Salah is estimated to have donated over £400,000 to help his hometown, with Maher Shitia, mayor of Nagrij, praising Salah’s generosity in 2017.

The Egyptian star’s donations don’t stop there: he has reportedly bought sports equipment, helped young people get married and donated football cups to young people in Najrij.

Mohamed Salah, 30, also donated £26,612 to the Egyptian Veteran Players Association to help former footballers who have fallen on hard times since retiring from the game.
