Media: Austria launches investigation into oil refinery sabotage "Schwechat"

The Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung, citing private sources, said an investigation was underway into an accident at the Chouechat oil refinery in early June, adding that it could be acts of sabotage.

According to the newspaper, an Austrian state agency is investigating the accident with its European partners, and the investigations show the possibility of an outside force intervening in the accident without mentioning the details of the investigation, while the refinery manager adheres to the version that the accident was due to technical problems.

The refinery in Schwechat is one of the largest in Europe.

It is noteworthy that the accident at the refinery occurred on June 3 last year, as a result of which the main primary oil refining unit was damaged.

Against the background of the accident, several regions of the country faced a shortage of diesel fuel, which forced the Austrian government to use the country’s strategic reserves.
