Lavrov: Trade between Russia and Gulf Cooperation Council countries reaches $11 billion

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that trade between Russia and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council has grown to $11 billion, despite geopolitical difficulties.

The statement was made at a press conference following the sixth round of the strategic dialogue between Russia and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which was held today, Monday, in the Russian capital of Moscow.

The Russian minister said: “Despite the difficult geopolitical conditions, we managed to maintain the positive dynamics of mutual trade. Last year (2022), trade between Russia and the GCC countries increased by more than 6% compared to the year before last. (2021)”. It exceeded $11 billion.

Lavrov emphasized that relations between Russia and the countries of the Persian Gulf are built on respect, as he expressed his country’s readiness to satisfy the additional demand of Arab countries for grain, stressing that there are no obstacles for this.

Lavrov said that Russia will continue “the sale of grain, and we fulfill all our obligations without exception, and we are ready to meet all needs, including the additional needs of our Arab partners, and there are no obstacles for this.”

Today, the sixth round of strategic dialogue between Russia and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia) at the level of foreign ministers took place in the Russian capital Moscow.

The dialogue aims to strengthen relations between the Gulf countries and Russia, as it included many international issues and issues of regional cooperation.
