Lavrov: Russia rejects the notion of the current phase of the new cold war

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that Russia does not consider the current stage of international relations a “new cold war”, noting that it is associated with the establishment of a multipolar world order.

“We are not inclined to define the current stage of international relations as some kind of new cold war,” Lavrov said in an interview with the Indonesian newspaper Compass, adding that “this is about something else, namely the formation of a multipolar world order.”

Lavrov continued: “This is an objective process, as everyone sees that the new centers of important decision-making at the global level are working to strengthen their positions in Eurasia, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.”

The Minister noted that the countries of the collective West, led by the United States, seek to slow down and reverse these processes.

Lavrov added: “Their goal is not to strengthen public security and general development, but to maintain their hegemony in world affairs and continue to implement the neo-colonial agenda. Simply put: they continue as we are used to. solve your problems at the expense of others.

The minister said that unilateral economic sanctions undermine food and energy security in the world, and that huge funds that could be used to promote international development are “burning today in the form of thousands of tons of military equipment and ammunition that are supplied to Ukrainian neo-Nazis.”

Lavrov also pointed out that Western selfishness contributes to the search for alternative formulas for cooperation in all areas.

“As a result of the freezing of Russian gold and foreign exchange reserves in the US and Europe, the international community understands that no one is immune from the confiscation of tangible assets stored in Western jurisdictions. Not only Russia, but also a number of other countries are constantly working on this,” the Foreign Minister emphasized. “Reduce your dependence on the US dollar, switch to using alternative payment systems and settlements in national currencies.

Lavrov noted that the effectiveness of interstate associations, in which the countries of the West do not participate, is increasing.

The Minister concluded: “One of the examples of modern multilateral diplomacy is the activity of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS. There are no “leaders” or “followers” and decisions are made by consensus. We welcome Indonesia’s interest in strengthening cooperation. with these associations, which, of course, she has a great future.”
