The White House expressed its deep concern about the events that took place in Israel today, noting that these events “underscore once again the urgent need to reach a compromise.”
A White House statement said that “U.S. President Joe Baden recently discussed this issue with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
The statement emphasized that “democratic values have always been and must remain a defining feature of the relationship between the United States and Israel. Democratic societies are strengthened by checks and balances, and fundamental changes in the democratic order must be made with the widest possible base of public support.”
The White House concluded its statement: “We continue to urge Israeli leaders to find a compromise as soon as possible. We believe this is the best way forward for Israel and all of its citizens. United States support for Israel’s security and democracy remains firm.”
