Largest Cocaine Smuggling Operation in Norway Thwarted

Officials say police made the biggest seizure of cocaine in Norway when they found 800 kilograms of the drug in fruit boxes in Oslo.

Norwegian news agency NTP reported late on Thursday that the drugs were discovered this week, according to German police who seized 1,200 kg (2,645 pounds) in Potsdam on Tuesday.

Police spokeswoman Great Lynn Meatlaid said it was the largest seizure in Norway’s history, stressing that it was too early to tell if the cocaine was destined for the Norwegian market or if Norway was being used as a transit point.

“We cannot rule out that there are larger networks connected to Norway,” added Lynn Mitlaid.

The police did not give the exact date when the cocaine was found in Oslo, or where it came from. No one was arrested in Norway.
