Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin was reviewing the oil price ceiling and preparations had been made to counter the trend.
Peskov added today in an interview with reporters: “Now we are analyzing the situation. Of course, preparations were made to counter this ceiling.”
Peskov stressed that Russia would refuse to set any ceilings on oil prices, and after a quick review, a decision would be made on how to organize the work later.
He said, “We will not accept this ceiling. As for how to organize the work, we will do a quick analysis and report back later.”
Earlier, the G7 and Australia announced an agreement to set a ceiling on purchases of Russian oil transported by sea at $60 per barrel.
The G7’s decision to set a ceiling on Russian oil prices will come into effect on or shortly after December 5th.
Yesterday, representatives of the EU countries also agreed on the level of the maximum price for oil from Russia – at the level of 60 dollars. The Council of the European Union is expected to ratify this decision soon.
