Kim Jong-un Orders Preparation for Launch of North Korea’s First Reconnaissance Satellite

North Korea’s central news agency reported that leader Kim Jong-un has ordered preparations to launch his country’s first reconnaissance satellite to boost its data-gathering capabilities.

According to the agency, Kim Jong-un organized a commission to prepare for the launch of a military reconnaissance satellite, which was manufactured in April, on time, and instructed to increase intelligence and information gathering capabilities.

During a visit to the headquarters of the government’s space administration, Kim Jong-un stressed that “having intelligence capabilities to monitor the military plans and movements of the enemy is one of the most important tasks in terms of strengthening the country’s defense capability.”

Kim Jong-un pointed out that the United States and South Korea threaten the security of Pyongyang by deploying various military equipment in the region.

It is noteworthy that at the end of 2022, North Korea tested a launch vehicle with an experimental device equipped with cameras and equipment for transmitting data, including video clips.

The rocket was launched to an altitude of about 500 km and photographs of Seoul and Incheon in South Korea were taken during its mission.
