Jump in Qatar’s international reserves

International reserves and foreign exchange liquidity for the Central Bank of Qatar increased in November 2022 and reached 223.985 billion rials, up 6.82% from 209.675 billion rials in the corresponding month of 2021.

Yesterday, data released by the Central Bank of Qatar showed an increase in its official reserves at the end of November last year compared to what it was at the end of the same month last year, by about 13.169 billion rials.

The increase was driven by an increase in central holdings of bonds and foreign treasury bills by about 18.896 billion rials to a level of 124.656 billion rials in November 2022.

Official reserves consist of the main components: foreign bonds and bills, cash balances in foreign banks, gold reserves, deposits with special drawing rights and the share of the State of Qatar in the International Monetary Fund. Apart from official reserves, other liquid assets are foreign currency deposits, so together they make up what is known as “general international reserves”.
