Pentagon: we did not know about Kyiv’s plans to target Russian territory

US Defense Department spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the Pentagon did not know in advance that Ukraine was targeting Russian territory and that Washington did not coordinate everything with Kyiv.

“I can say that we are not in constant contact or coordination with Kyiv regarding planned strikes, but we are certainly cooperating with our Ukrainian counterparts,” Singh added in a statement on Wednesday.

She confirmed that the United States is supplying the Ukrainian side with what they deem necessary in terms of weapons and systems.

“They (Ukrainians) decide on their own targets, and when they conduct an operation, we provide them with military assistance,” a Pentagon spokeswoman said.

And she pointed out that “we do not need to be informed or reported about any strikes on Russian soil.”

“We will provide them with everything they need to protect their lands and protect their citizens on the battlefield,” Singh added. “Of course, we do not want an escalation. We do not want a war with Russia. But we will provide an opportunity for Ukraine to defend itself.”
