It’s official… Italy will host the Mediterranean Games for the fourth time

The General Assembly of the Mediterranean countries has chosen the Italian city of Taranto as the venue for the 20th Mediterranean Games, which will be held in the summer of 2026.

This will be the fourth time that Italy will host the Mediterranean Games after Naples 1963 – Bari 1997 – Pescara 2009.

The events of the 19th edition of the course ended last night, Wednesday, in the Algerian city of Oran, which lasted from June 24 to July 6.

Italy topped the medal table with 159 medals, 48 ​​gold, 50 silver and 61 bronze.

Host Algeria ranked first among the Arab countries and fourth among the participating countries with 53 medals (20 gold, 17 silver, 16 bronze), followed by Spain in fifth place with 65 medals (16 gold, 25 silver, 25 bronze). .

Twenty-six countries of Europe, Africa and Asia, bordering the Mediterranean, took part in the 19th Mediterranean Games. They competed in 19 sports, namely: athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, weapons, gymnastics, handball, karate, shooting from a bow. tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, bow and arrow, judo, sailing, table tennis, weightlifting, wrestling and equestrianism.
