Istanbul breaks tourism record with majority of visitors from Russia.

Istanbul recorded a record number of foreign tourists visiting it in the first three months of 2023.

According to a statement released by the Istanbul Culture and Tourism Authority, 3,480,630 people visited the city on Friday in the first three months of this year.

In March last year, the number of foreign tourists reached 1,206,770 people.

According to the statement, most tourists came to Istanbul from Russia, Iran, Germany, the United States and England, respectively.

Earlier, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, citing sources, reported that Moscow and Ankara had agreed to increase the number of flights for Russian tourists.

The newspaper confirmed this, citing information from sources in the administration of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She noted that “Moscow and Ankara agreed to increase the number of flights for Russian tourists who want to relax in Turkish resorts.”

The sources did not specify how much the number of flights will increase and at what point this will happen.
