Iranian Foreign Minister Receives UN Envoy and Emphasizes: Yemen’s Security Affects Regional Stability

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian stressed that “Iran wants peace, stability and security for the great Yemeni people and believes that this will have a direct impact on stability and security in the region.”

This statement was made by the Iranian Foreign Minister today, Sunday, during talks in Tehran with the envoy of the UN Secretary General for Yemen, Hans Grandberg.

He added that “only the Yemeni people are concerned about deciding the fate of their country, and that the preservation of the current conditions, including a permanent truce, depends on the lifting of the entire siege placed on the Yemeni people.”

Amir Abdollahyan emphasized: “It is impossible to remain silent about the fate of the 20 million Yemeni women, children and men who face difficult conditions to obtain the most basic necessities of life, such as medicine, food and healthy drinking water. ”

He also praised the efforts of the UN Special Representative for Yemen, at the same time condemning the actions that hinder the implementation of some provisions of the ceasefire agreement, and stressing the need to completely lift the siege on the Yemeni people.

For his part, Grandberg expressed “recognition of the constructive stance taken by the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Yemeni crisis” and said, “I have sought to strengthen the ceasefire since my appointment as Special Representative of the Secretary-General. United Nations in the affairs of this country.”

The UN spokesman added: I have always stressed the need to move forward towards a sustainable strengthening of the ceasefire with the participation of all Yemeni parties.

Referring to his recent talks in Tehran with Ali Asghar Haji, Senior Assistant Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs, Grandberg said that in this meeting, the two sides reviewed the latest developments and conditions prevailing in Yemen.
