International Monetary Fund: US-China confrontation will lead to a new cold war

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva said that the confrontation between the US and China is dividing the world into opposing blocs, returning us to a new round of the Cold War.

“I’m worried about the deep fragmentation of the global economy, which could leave us in a poorer and more insecure world,” she said. “I lived through the first Cold War and I think the second is an irresponsible idea.”

Georgieva noted that if the confrontation escalates, the world economy will shrink by 1.5 percent, or more than $1.4 trillion year on year.

And earlier Global Times wrote that the US is seeking to capitalize on the Ukrainian crisis in every way, especially by weakening European countries.

According to Senator Alexei Pushkov, the US intends to damage the EU economy in order to gain political control over Brussels.

Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte expressed confidence that the strategic interests of the European Union should not be reduced in favor of the United States.
