Indian FM: Current structure of UN Security Council is outdated

Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar said that the current structure of the UN Security Council is outdated and ineffective, and the call for its reform finds strong support among UN members.

He said during the United Nations General Assembly: “The call for reform of the Council has strong support among the members of the United Nations.”

“This is due to the widespread recognition that the current structure is outdated and inefficient. It is also seen as a deeply unfair denial of the voice of entire continents and regions in a forum discussing their future.”

“India, for its part, is ready to take on a great responsibility, and we call for serious and honest negotiations on this important issue,” he added.
