Spain: Russian gas supplies to Europe fell by more than 82 percent

Teresa Ribera, Minister for Environmental Transformation and Demographic Challenges of Spain, confirmed that gas supplies from Russia to Europe have fallen by more than 82 percent over the year.

“In just a year, Russian gas supplies fell by more than 82 percent. In January 2021, Russian gas imports accounted for about 40 percent of gas consumed in Europe, and currently this percentage does not exceed 10 percent,” Ribera said during a television interview on RTVE.

Ribera pointed out that Europe is preparing to reduce Russian gas imports and relies on independence and meeting its own needs.

Spain has the widest list of natural gas suppliers, according to the EpData information platform, among the traditional gas suppliers of Spain, Algeria, the United States of America, France, Russia, Central Guinea, Nigeria, Norway, Qatar and Trinidad and Tobago. .

According to the International Energy Agency, the European Union imported 155 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Russia in 2021, representing 45 percent of Europe’s imports and 40 percent of its total consumption.
