Imran Khan accuses Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of involvement in assassination attempt

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has accused incumbent Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, an interior minister and an intelligence official, of involvement in Thursday’s attempted assassination.

In a statement released by Asaad Omar, leader of Khan’s Insaf Movement party, the former prime minister blamed his successor, the interior minister and an intelligence official, and demanded the dismissal of three officials from their posts.

Imran Khan said: “I’m sure there were 3 people behind this: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Rana Sanullah, Interior Minister and Major General Faisal.” He added: “I received information in advance that this would happen. These people need to be removed from their positions, and if they are not removed, there will be protests.” Supporters of Imran Khan have already started protesting after he was shot dead.

For his part, Pakistan’s Home Minister denied Imran Khan’s allegations, saying in a statement: “Imran Khan blamed me, the prime minister and a senior officer. This is a disgusting statement.” “This happened in a province where Imran Khan’s party is in government,” he added.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who came to power after Khan lost a parliamentary vote of no confidence in April, immediately condemned the attack on his political opponent.

“I condemn in the strongest terms the Imran Khan shooting incident,” Sharif wrote on his Twitter account, adding that he requested an “immediate report on the incident,” adding, “Violence should have no place in our country’s politics. .”
Police said they had detained a man suspected of shooting at the rally. He added that the suspect was arrested while in possession of a 9mm pistol and two empty magazines.

According to Faisal Javid, a senior Pakistani politician, at least one person died in the incident and was also injured in the attack.
