German Defense Minister on Missile Supply to Ukraine
Introduction
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said his country would not supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus cruise missiles “automatically” if Washington decides to supply ATACMS missiles to Ukraine.
Germany’s Decision
Pistorius told reporters on Monday that “there is nothing automatic about this war,” adding that Germany had not yet decided whether or not to supply Ukraine with Taurus missiles.
US Assistance to Ukraine
This comes amid media reports that Washington is likely to provide Ukraine with ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 300 km as military assistance in the future.
Ukraine’s Request
Ukraine has also requested from Germany Taurus cruise missiles, which are launched from aircraft and have a range of up to 500 km.
Other Suppliers
Great Britain and France supplied Ukraine with long-range missiles such as Storm Shadow and Scalp.
