Former US official: Trump lied about stealing 2020 election results

Chris Krebs, chief cybersecurity officer in the administration of former President Donald Trump, testified before the January 6th committee, saying that Trump and Republican officials lied about stealing the 2020 election results.

Chris Krebs, fired by Trump in a November 2020 tweet, led the US Agency for Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security during the Trump administration, calling the 2020 presidential election “the safest in American history.”

When asked by parliamentary committee investigators why opinion polls show that a large percentage of Americans believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen, Krebs blamed Trump and his entourage in the Republican Party, saying, “I personally think the reason for this is that Republican officials and senior officials, including former President Ying, lied to the American people about the security of the 2020 elections, and they were stolen.”

And he thought Trump fired him for providing “factual information about the security of the election,” adding, “I don’t remember being told exactly the reason for my exclusion, but I think the reason was clear enough, ie. provide factual information about the security of the elections.”
