Financial Times: The West has failed to convince the countries of Africa and Latin America to oppose Russia

The Financial Times reported that Western countries wanted to use the Munich Security Conference to persuade countries in Africa and Latin America to toughen their foreign policy towards Russia, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

According to the newspaper: Western leaders failed to convince the leaders of the countries of the so-called global south that Russia’s actions in Ukraine threaten the security of Europe.

The article notes that representatives of African and Latin American countries at bilateral meetings with Western heads of state in Munich were more concerned about rising inflation, energy prices and food security issues than the situation in Ukraine.

The newspaper emphasized that developing countries do not trust Western countries because of their refusal to pay compensation for the climate damage they have caused and their unwillingness to share coronavirus vaccines at the beginning of the epidemic.
