Ethiopian PM lists benefits of Renaissance Dam

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed listed the benefits his country will receive from the Renaissance Dam project, which Addis Ababa announced today, Friday, on the completion of the third filling of its reservoir.

The Prime Minister said that years have passed since African countries agreed on regional economic cooperation, noting that one of the ways to strengthen these economic relations is to sell electricity to neighboring countries.

He added that when electricity is fully generated at the Renaissance Dam, neighboring countries will be able to benefit from it, and this will provide ample opportunities for joint development, growth and prosperity.

He also mentioned that the area where the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is located is mountainous and green, which will promote tourism and various entertainments, as well as fish farming.

He noted that the Renaissance Dam could become a landmark in Ethiopia, being the largest dam in Africa, which will allow it to attract people from all over the world to explore it.

I declare that because of the dam, there will be about 70 islands in the area, with more than 40 islands covering more than 10 hectares each, and some of them occupying from 800 to two thousand hectares, and that the smallest island is 5 hectares.

He explained that these islands can accommodate many tourist resorts and other entertainment facilities, the right investments and various water sports.
