Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir has contracted Abella Egypt, owned by businessman Naguib Sawiris, to manage and operate the government’s trains.
During the meeting, the Minister of Transport reviewed the existing opportunities for private sector participation in the transport sector, which was held as part of the activities of the second day of the economic conference, new investment opportunities available for private sector participation in railway projects, presented in the establishment of an outstanding transport company, through the establishment of a company to manage and operate the new Talgo and class trains. The first and second are air-conditioned, from a contract for the supply of 1,350 vehicles currently supplied by the Hungarian company Janz Mavage, to provide outstanding passenger service and restore 391 old tractors available to private sector companies.
He noted that the restoration and modernization of light vehicles with 340 conventional wagons available to private sector companies, the restoration, management and operation of the 350 km Abu Tartur – Qena Line Project and its connection to the station interchange between high-speed electric train and diesel engine in Qena in connection with the opening by the Ministry of Petroleum of a plant for the production of phosphoric acid in the Abu Tartur region.
