Zelensky’s office received a petition to replace the Ukrainian alphabet with the Latin alphabet

A petition was received on the website of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office demanding that the Ukrainian alphabet, which is derived from Cyrillic, be replaced in the country with the Latin alphabet, which is an additional step towards encroaching on the Russian language.

“I ask you to consider the possibility of translating the alphabet into Latin within the framework of the modern English alphabet,” the petition says.

The petition stated that the reasons for the move were “sufficient and clear”, and the petitioner “could not recall a more pressing moment in the country’s history for such a move”.

The petition was registered on October 24, gaining more than 20 votes out of 25,000 required for consideration.
