Egypt is looking for an alternative to wheat to feed the people

Egyptian Minister of Higher Education Ayman Ashour announced the government’s efforts to find an alternative to wheat to meet the steady demand for it without significantly changing the quality of food in the country.

Ashour stressed the importance of holding the first National Wheat Day (Wheat Science Day) conference, which is being held in response to directives from the Egyptian President to take the necessary steps to meet Egypt’s wheat needs.

He noted that the purpose of the conference is to improve communication between scientists, researchers and experts in science, technology and climate to work together on wheat production in a way that contributes to Egypt keeping pace with Vision 2050, which establishes a strategy capable of facing the challenges that threaten Egypt’s food security, especially the recent war in Ukraine.
