Ecuador seizes 3.2 tons of cocaine, more than half of which was destined for Europe

Ecuadorian police said authorities seized at least 3.2 tons of cocaine, two tons of which were hidden in a banana container bound for Europe.

The police said in a tweet via Twitter that “investigations resulted in the seizure of more than two tons of cocaine in a container in Guayaquil (in the west of the country) that was destined for Europe.”

“On the other hand, an inspection of a container of bananas destined for export revealed 87 cans of (total) tons and 213 kilograms of cocaine” at another port in the coastal province of Guayas in the west of the country, she added.

Ecuador borders Colombia and Peru, two of the largest cocaine-producing countries.

In 2021, 210 tons of drugs were seized in the country, which is a record number of annual seizures in the country, most of which are white powder.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 100 tons of drugs have been seized in the country.
