Defense of Russia: Explosion by Kyiv troops of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was a terrorist act

The Russian Defense Ministry considered the bombing of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by Kyiv troops an act of nuclear terrorism in accordance with an international agreement adopted by a resolution of the UN General Assembly.

“In accordance with the international agreement adopted by the resolution of the UN General Assembly on April 13, 2005, we consider these criminal actions of the Ukrainian authorities as nuclear terrorism,” said Mikhail Mezintsev, head of the Main Center for Defense Control of Russia.

“In the event of an accident at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, a global man-made disaster will occur, which, in terms of the level of radioactive contamination, will far exceed the consequences of the accidents at the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear power plants,” he added.

He pointed out that the area of radioactive contamination will be more than 5.3 thousand square kilometers and will include Kyiv, Zaporozhye, Kharkov, Poltava, Kherson, Odessa, Nikolaev, Kirovograd, Vinnitsa, Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the border regions of Russia and Belarus, as well as Moldova, Bulgaria and Romania.

He called on the UN, the International Atomic Energy Agency and other international organizations to condemn the criminal actions of the Kyiv authorities and take urgent measures to prevent provocations at radiation hazardous facilities in Ukraine.
