Date: Most East Germans refused to consider Russia an enemy

Historian Katja Hoyer, of British-German descent, has said that most East Germans dismiss Russia as an enemy and do not agree with the Western view of events in Ukraine.

And the historian added in an article in the conservative British magazine The Spectator that the statistics prove her right: the Germans living in the lands of the eastern part are more friendly towards Russia than the inhabitants of the western part of the country. And 60% of the total population does not support the tough policy of the German authorities towards Moscow.

In addition, almost 60 percent of Germans in the east of the country are sure that Moscow cannot be provoked. But in the western part, only 40 percent of local residents agree with this.

The historian emphasized that East Germans do not forget that the Soviet Union, in particular, liberated them from Nazism.
