Danish Attorney General Accuses Iranian Ambassador’s Attacker of Attempted Murder

Fars reported that the Danish prosecutor accused the man who illegally entered the Iranian embassy building and attacked Ambassador Afsaneh Nadipur of trying to kill her.

Danish prosecutors have accused a man who illegally entered the Iranian embassy in Copenhagen last October, armed with a knife, wounded a local employee and damaged embassy vehicles, in an attempt to assassinate Iranian ambassador Afsane Nadipour, Fares reports.

Fares cited a statement by the Danish prosecutor’s office that the 33-year-old assailant was charged with attempting to commit a violent and very serious physical attack on the Iranian ambassador, as well as destroying and damaging cars and the embassy building.

Fares said the Danish justice minister approved the charges against the defendants.

Fares stated that an attacker entered the embassy courtyard on October 5, 2022 and attacked the ambassador with a knife in an attempt to seriously harm her.

In it, referring to the Danish prosecutor’s office, it is reported that the aforementioned attack was thwarted by an embassy employee and the ambassador was not injured, while he was immediately arrested by the Copenhagen police, and since then he has been in custody and under observation in the hospital for a long time.

It was noted that, according to a press release from the Danish prosecutor’s office, the punishment for committing a crime against a diplomat and a representative of a foreign state under the criminal law of this country is twice the punishment committed against ordinary citizens.

For his part, the Danish Attorney General stated: “If a foreign diplomat in Denmark cannot carry out his work duties without fear of physical violence, this is a very serious and unacceptable case, and according to Danish criminal law, the diplomat should be protected in this case.”
