Damascus voices disapproval over Brussels conference on Syria and Turkey aid post-earthquake without consultation

The Syrian Foreign Ministry criticized the holding of the so-called “Brussels Conference of Donors to Support the Earthquake Victims in Syria and Turkey” without the consent of the Syrian government representing the country that was hit by the disaster, or inviting it to participate.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs said in a statement: “Syria regrets holding the so-called Brussels Donor Conference to support earthquake-affected people in Syria and Turkey without coordination with the Syrian government representing the country in which the disaster occurred. incident or by inviting him to take part in his work. Rather, those in charge of the conference also excluded the participation of the most prominent participants.” National aid workers from Syrian NGOs.

The ministry confirmed that this approach of the conference organizers and their politicization of humanitarian and development work was also manifested in their “continued imposition of illegal, inhuman and immoral coercive measures on the Syrian people, including those affected by the disaster.” “

The ministry pointed out that “American forces illegally stationed on Syrian territory continue to steal thousands of barrels of Syrian oil and smuggle it out of Syria, not caring about the urgent need of earthquake victims for energy resources to operate shelters, ambulance systems. , healthcare facilities and services, transport”.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that the message of the Syrians to the organizers and participants of this conference is that a minimum level of improvement in the humanitarian and housing conditions of the victims of the earthquake “requires, above all, a sincere political will and the immediate and unconditional lifting of the policy of collective punishment imposed by the Syrian people.”

And the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced today, Monday, at the opening of the International Donor Conference for Earthquake Relief, that the Ministry will support Turkey with one billion euros for post-earthquake reconstruction, and the next package will be allocated for humanitarian aid and emergency reconstruction of Syria in the amount of 108 million euros.
