Borrell’s Response to Warrant for President Putin’s ‘Arrest’: Let’s Await the Outcome

EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell urged to wait for the practical results of the “arrest warrant” issued by the International Criminal Court against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Borrell believed that the “arrest warrant” issued by the International Criminal Court against President Putin was “an important factor in changing the rules of the game.”

Borrell added, commenting on the decision: “The decision of the International Criminal Court to arrest Putin is a very important development and an important game-changing factor. I know that the Russian authorities reject the decision of the International Criminal Court. Court, but they say that Russia did not sign this treaty, so we will wait for practical results.”

Last Friday, the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court issued an “arrest warrant” for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova Belova.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Russia does not recognize the authority and jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court in The Hague and considers its decisions legally invalid.

The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to give a legal assessment of the statements of the Minister of Justice of Germany, Marco Buschmann, about the “arrest” of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
