Influential deputies of both chambers of the Czech Parliament, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Pavel Fischer and Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies Marek Genechik opposed the issuance of Schengen visas to Russian citizens
Fischer said: “For the safety of citizens of EU countries, including citizens of the Czech Republic, the issuance of Schengen visas to Russian citizens should be completely stopped. According to Geneshek, the ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians was supposed to be one of the first sanctions imposed on Russia.
The ban on the issuance of visas for entry and residence to Russian citizens in the Czech Republic itself, with the exception of humanitarian purposes, was introduced by a decision of the Foreign Ministry on February 25, and in July it was extended until the end of March 2023.
