Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Stanislav Zass said that the issue of joining the organization of new members is not currently being discussed, adding that steps aimed at expanding the organization should increase its effectiveness.

Zass said in an interview with the Novosti agency: “No, we are not discussing this issue now. There is no need to treat it in a simplistic way. We should not strive to increase the number of members.”

He pointed out that steps to expand the organization should increase its effectiveness and strengthen overall security.

He added: “We must work not for quantity, but for quality.”

Today, the Collective Security Treaty Organization includes 6 countries: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
