Champions League.. Benfica in the group stage

Benfica, two-time champions, reached the 2022-2023 Champions League group stage on Tuesday in the second leg of the qualifying round with a 3-0 victory over their guest Dynamo Kyiv.

Benfica won 2-0 in the first leg which took place in Poland last Wednesday.

At home in Lisbon, 1961 and 1962 European champions Nicolas Otamendi of Argentina, Rafa Silva and Brazil’s David Neres scored goals in the 27th, 40th and 42nd minutes respectively.

Benfica reached the quarter-finals of the continental championship last season before facing Liverpool.

Czech Viktoria Plzen also qualified with a 2-1 victory over their guest Qarabag after they drew 0-0 in the first leg in Baku.

Israeli Maccabi Haifa also qualified after a 2-2 draw that came from an own goal against their Serbian hosts, Red Star Star, after they beat him 3-2 in the first leg.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, the contract for qualified teams for the group stage will be completed as Croatian Dinamo Zagreb will play Norway’s Bodo Glimt, Turkey’s Trabzonspor will play Danish FC Copenhagen and Dutch PSV Eindhoven will play Scottish Rangers.
