Canadian parliamentarian: Sanctions against Russia are complete stupidity and unpleasant consequences

Stephane Bergeron, Vice Speaker of the Canadian House of Representatives, confirmed that some of Canada’s economic sanctions against Russia are counterproductive, harming Canadian farmers and benefiting their Russian counterparts.

“Some of Canada’s sanctions against Russia are counterproductive,” he said at a meeting of the Council on Foreign Affairs committee. “Canada is one of the few countries, if not the only one, that has imposed sanctions on grain and seeds from Russia. Russian goods are more productive and profitable “On international markets… This is sheer stupidity!”

He stressed that the committee should “overhaul Canada’s penitentiary system to get rid of these loopholes and inconsistencies.”
