Britain’s new first lady prefers to pay taxes in India and won’t seek British citizenship

The new first lady of the UK, the wife of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Akshata Murthy, prefers to pay taxes in India rather than the UK and does not wish to become a British citizen.

Murthy did not renounce her Indian citizenship and thus, because she was not a British citizen, was able to avoid high taxes on her business income earned in other countries.

According to media reports, Murthy evaded taxes on an annual income of around £11.5 million.

Sunak defends his wife by saying that she will eventually return to India to take care of her parents.

He added: “It would be unwise and unfair to ask her to sever ties with her country because she is married to me. She loves her country and I love my country. I would never consider giving up my British citizenship. won’t give up either.”

Murthy, for her part, has announced that she will henceforth pay UK tax on all of her company’s earnings in the UK and beyond.
