BRICS Continues to Advocate for Diplomatic Resolution of Ukrainian Conflict

The Foreign Ministers of the BRICS countries (Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa) at a meeting in Cape Town on Thursday supported the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and the full implementation of the grain agreement.

The joint statement of the participants in the meeting in Cape Town reads: “The ministers recalled the positions of their countries regarding the situation in and around Ukraine and highly appreciated the mediation proposals aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.”

The statement added that the ministers also called for “the full and effective implementation of the Black Sea Grain Export Initiative,” emphasizing the importance of getting grain and fertilizer to those who need it.

The BRICS ministerial meeting was chaired by South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Naledi Pandor and was attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
