Former US national security adviser John Bolton said he was unimpressed by the low price an Iranian military agent offered for his assassination and joked that he was “ashamed” of the $300,000 sum.
“Well, I was confused by the low rate. I thought it would be higher,” Bolton said in a statement. “I think it could be an exchange rate issue or something.”
He stated that he “has a general understanding of this threat, but I do not know many of the details of the case against Shahram Borsafi, a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.”
On Wednesday, the US Department of Justice announced the revelation of an Iranian plot to assassinate Bolton, noting that 45-year-old Shahram Borsafi, also known as Mehdi Rezaee, a member of the Revolutionary Guard, offered the sum of $300,000 to one of the US would kill Bolton in retaliation for the US assassination.
