The Italian newspaper Corriere del Mezzogiorno has revealed the reason for the failure of the transfer of the Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United star, to the ranks of Naples before the end of the current summer transfer market.
And a newspaper close to Naples reported that United tried to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli for more than 80 million euros, and Ronaldo loaned him out for the season.
Naples was a potential destination for the Portuguese, especially since the team is in the Champions League that Ronaldo was aiming for.
*Osimhen-Ronaldo transfer rumors*
????????????Why the Osimhen-Ronaldo deal didn’t work because Manchester United didn’t offer more than 80 million euros for Osimhen and Napoli didn’t want to cover 50% of Ronaldo’s salary, as reported by Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno.#MU#MUFC#ManUnitedpic.twitter.com/gjpEWmxZP3— MUMU Football (@MUMUfootball) September 2, 2022
And the newspaper added: Manchester United wanted to share Ronaldo’s salary equally with Napoli, with no more than 80 million euros of money allocated to Victor Osimhen, but nothing came of it.
The report indicated that Napoli were not in direct talks with the Manchester United administration about Cristiano Ronaldo, “but were in talks with his agent Jorge Mendez”.
Cristiano Giuntoli, Napoli’s sporting director, previously stated: “We have a very good relationship with Jorge Mendez, Ronaldo’s agent, but there was nothing concrete between Napoli and the player.”
