Grossi: The integrity of the nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye was violated several times and we will continue to assess the damage

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said that the integrity of the nuclear power plant had been violated several times, noting that it is currently impossible to determine whether the damage was intentional or by mistake.

In a statement to reporters, Grossi added: “It is clear that the integrity of the station building has been violated on numerous occasions… At this time, we do not have the necessary data to assess whether this was done by accident or on purpose.”

Grossi noted that experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency will remain at the Zaporozhye NPP until September 4 or 5 to assess the situation.

He explained that there are two groups of technical experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency. One team will work at the station until Sunday or Monday (September 4 or 5) to assess the situation. They must formulate the first questions, the first statements, give an initial assessment, and then prepare a report.

After that, we plan to ensure our permanent presence at the station, that is, the permanent presence of IAEA specialists in Zaporozhye.

According to him, the IAEA specialists examined the emergency systems, diesel generators and block shields of power units: “They checked the emergency systems, diesel generators, block shields of nuclear power units and other components.”
