Afghanistan plans to import oil products from Russia

Afghan Minister of Industry and Trade Nureddin Azizi said that his country plans to reach an agreement with Russia by the end of this year on the supply of about a million tons of gasoline and one million tons of diesel fuel.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Azizi said: “Afghanistan currently needs more than 4 million tons of oil. We supply oil from neighboring countries, but we want to increase imports. And since Russia is our friend, we came here to agree on the supply of Russian oil and oil products.”

“We plan to supply about a million tons of gasoline and the same amount of diesel fuel (from Russia). It is necessary that the agreement takes into account the interests of both parties. Because this is a very important moment, and this issue is one of the most important priorities of our country, we want to conclude this agreement,” he added as soon as possible.”

When asked by a journalist about the possibility of signing this document this year, he replied: “Yes, this year.”

The minister, accompanied by a delegation from his ministry, is on a working visit to Moscow from 14 to 21 August. As part of this visit, the Afghan minister held a series of talks in Moscow, and on Thursday visited Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan.
