German Newspaper Reveals Surprise Candidate for Germany Coach: Zinedine Zidane

German newspaper Bild has revealed a big surprise regarding one of the candidates to take over from coach Hansi Flick, who was sacked yesterday, Sunday, following a huge 4-1 friendly defeat to Japan.

Zinedine Zidane: A Potential Candidate

According to the German publication, one of the candidates for the post of head of the national team is the Frenchman Zinedine Zidane, the former coach of Real Madrid.

The newspaper added that Zidane’s distinguished history, whether at the level of the clubs he has played for or his coaching career at Real Madrid, and the respect he commands due to his status as a player, could support his choice as Germany coach.

German Football Association’s President’s Statement

For his part, Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German Football Association, said: “We agreed that the national team needs a new leader after disappointing results recently. We need a spirit of optimism and confidence as Euro 2024 (which will be held) approaches our country.”

He continued: “For me personally, this is one of the most difficult decisions I have made in my term because I value Hansi Flick and his assistants as football experts and as people… Despite this, sporting success is very important. important for the German federation, so the decision was inevitable.”

Interim Management

Rudi Völler, manager of the national team, Hannes Wolf, coach of the Germany U20 team, and his assistant Sandro Wagner will take charge of the friendly match against France in Dortmund tomorrow, Tuesday.

The German Federation said in a statement: “The goal is to find Flick’s successor as soon as possible.”

Other Potential Candidates

As previously, German coach Julian Nagelsmann’s name has been put forward as a candidate for the post after he was sacked as Bayern Munich coach in March last year and is currently not linked to any team.

But the Union will have to negotiate with Bayern to terminate Nagelsmann’s contract, which is still extended until the summer of 2026.

The Bavarian club is asking for 10 to 15 million euros in exchange for breaking the contract.

According to Sky Sports, the fee will be costly for the German federation, which could push them to pursue other options including Oliver Glasner, Stefan Kunz, and Antonio De Salvo.

The search for a new coach for the German national team is underway, with Zinedine Zidane emerging as a surprise candidate. The German Football Association aims to find a successor to Hansi Flick as quickly as possible to bring optimism and confidence to the team ahead of Euro 2024. While Julian Nagelsmann is also in the running, negotiations with Bayern Munich may prove to be a hurdle. The German federation is considering alternative options to ensure a successful transition for the national team.
