Zelensky Proposes Joint US and European Counteroffensive in Near Future

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in his talks with U.S. and European leaders, he called for an earlier counteroffensive and tried to get weapons to do so.

“The slowness of the counterattack is due to some difficulties on the battlefield. Everything is heavily mined there. I wanted our counterattack to start much earlier, because everyone understood that if it started later, much larger areas would be mined.”

He added: “I am grateful to the United States, the leader of support for Ukraine, but I told them, and I told the European leaders, that we would like to launch our counterattack earlier and that for this we need weapons and ammunition. Why? Because if we start later, we will move much slower.”

White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirby previously commented that the failure of the Ukrainian counterattack was due to “weather and long months” that allowed Russian forces to prepare for defense.
