Zelensky imposes sanctions against Prigozhin’s companies and Russian athletes

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has imposed sanctions on a number of Russian athletes and a number of companies associated with the founder of the Russian private military company Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Swimmer Alexander Popov, honorary president of the Russian Olympic Committee Vitaly Smirnov, two-time Olympic champion in ski jumping, member of the executive committee of the Russian Olympic Committee Elena Isinbayeva and president of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpischev were sanctioned.

Sanctions were imposed both on Prigozhin’s companies and on structures related to him, such as the Wagner military company, Concord-M, the Federal News Agency and other companies.

In October 2022, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine approved the sanctions list, which included Prigozhin himself.
