The Peace Now Movement said the Israeli government had hit US President Joe Biden by promoting two destructive plans in East Jerusalem, while Biden reaffirmed his support for a two-state solution.
The movement said that “While Biden reiterated his support for a two-state solution at the arrival ceremony at Ben Gurion Airport, discussions about advancing two new settlements in East Jerusalem were scheduled to be discussed shortly after his departure.” After Prime Minister Yair Lapida ordered the cancellation of a scheduled Jerusalem District Planning Committee discussion scheduled for July 18 to avoid embarrassment during Biden’s visit, and the discussion was rescheduled for a week later on July 25.”
And she pointed out that “The Planning Committee is discussing the deposit of two plans for approximately 2,000 housing units, which will deal a serious blow to the possibility of a two-state solution and the development of East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. The plans will be closed, Givat HaShakid near Beit Safaf and the scheme of the lower canal between Har Homa and Givat Hamatos, the last remaining corridor connecting Beit Safaf.” and balconies and other Palestinian neighborhoods in East Jerusalem.
And she believes that “the Lapid government has decided to slap the President of the United States and during his visit is promoting two destructive plans in East Jerusalem. While President Biden upon his arrival reaffirmed his support and commitment to the two-state solution,” adding, “During the ceremony, the Israeli government acted to sabotage it, and these plans not only damage Israel’s relationship with its biggest ally, but and damage Israel’s interests and the prospects for peace and settlement in Jerusalem.”
