Washington urges G20 to put pressure on Russia on Ukrainian grain issue

The US State Department said the G20 should put pressure on Russia to support UN efforts to create a mechanism to transport Ukrainian grain by sea.

“The G20 countries should hold Russia accountable and insist that it supports the UN’s efforts to open sea routes for grain,” US Assistant Secretary of State Ramin Taloy said during a special press conference on Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s trip to Indonesia and Thailand.

Taloy noted that energy and food security issues will be among the most important topics that Blinken will discuss at the G20 ministerial meeting in Indonesia.

He explained that Blinken will seek to “mobilize support to meet vital food needs through additional humanitarian and development assistance.”

It is noteworthy that the G20 ministerial meeting will be held in Indonesia on July 7-8.
