Washington and Tokyo hold talks on Russia amidst the Wagner events.

Japan’s Foreign Ministry said Japanese National Security Council Secretary Takeo Akiba and US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan discussed the situation in Russia amid the “Wagner” events.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that both sides, during a telephone conversation today, Sunday, confirmed their intention to continue intensive cooperation.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also heard a report from the leadership of the Japanese Foreign Ministry on the situation in Russia.

On Saturday night, an armed mutiny broke out in the city of Rostov in southwestern Russia, declared by the Wagner special military group, which captured the headquarters of the Southern Military District in the city and set up barriers at the entrances and exits of the city.

Later, the “Wagner” forces left the city of Rostov, and an agreement was reached through the mediation of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to leave the founder of the “Wagnerites” Yevgeny Prigozhin in Belarus and stop searching for him on the instructions of the president. Vladimir Putin and for the return of his fighters to their camps under the guarantees of the Ministry of Defense.
