Warning from American Expert: Washington Should Avoid Playing with Fire in the Pursuit of Defeating Russia

“The United States is taking a big risk to achieve a final victory over Russia in the conflict in Ukraine and punish its leaders,” said Philip Linderman, an expert at the Center for Immigration Studies, a former US diplomat.

“The State Department is playing with fire when it tries to use the International Criminal Court against Russia,” Linderman wrote in an article for The American Conservative.

He explained: “The anti-Russian position of the United States, agreed with the International Criminal Court, is a more radical, hasty and irreversible diplomatic step than the tactics of applying economic sanctions and visa sanctions.”

The expert pointed out that the position of the administration of US President Joe Biden is contradictory, since Biden calls the court memorandum regarding the “arrest” of Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s rights commissioner Maria Lvova Belova “reasonable.” on the other hand, Washington does not recognize the authority of this court in relation to American citizens.

On March 17, the International Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction Moscow does not recognize, issued a warrant for the “arrest” of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova Belova. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that raising the issue of “arresting” the President of Russia by the International Criminal Court is unacceptable, noting that Moscow does not recognize his authority and considers all his decisions invalid from the point of view of the law. For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said: “The effectiveness of the activities of the International Criminal Court is equal to zero.”
